Each living being born on this earth has to be prone to
change.
From an egg to fully fledged human body is the highest level
of change we experience in shortest span of time. Then from sleeping to
crawling to walking to running, from no teeth to milk teeth to food teeth are
all changes we experience in very initial stage of life.
We adapt to learn languages in fact in India we get multi linguistic at very early age.
So why are we afraid of change when we grow up? What stops us from accepting change of life style, our behavior, our manners, our habits, a change of job etc.
As we grow up we become so rigid with our routine that we are not able to sleep on other place then our bed, without our pillow, food is not satisfying if it not served in plate we eat daily and so on.
Hereon we will discuss reasons why we don’t change.
Why we discuss reasons when solution is what needs to be
discussed. Solving a problem or curing a disease without knowing its roots may
lead to failure. So understanding root cause of any problem is essential.
Reasons why people resist to change
1.
Perceived
risk: We always perceive a risk and discomfort in change. The fear
in mind about adaptability, risk to losing, risk to failure. All these
perceived risk leads to resistance to change
2. Too much thinking: Too many thoughts
too soon are greater risk to change. We think and create a whole life play
without even knowing the whole procedure of change. Too many assumptions works
as greatest obstructions
3.
Losing power
and status: Doing same work for long time brings expertise, hence
change brings new lessons to learn which often lead to change in position and
power, it is difficult to digest
4.
Assuming we
can’t learn: We often after a certain age resist to learn new
things, long break from learning cycle develops walls in mind towards learning
attitude. We perceive we can’t concentrate we can’t adapt, things are difficult,
as extra efforts need to be put to achieve the extra mileage.
5.
Our habits:
Doing same work daily makes our body and mind lazy blocks us to accept change
6.
Ego:
Most silent, dangerous, unseen and unacceptable clot to change is one’s ego.
Unless it is realized it exist it is very difficult to change
7.
Excuse: We
often present excuses when faced with change, our whole energy of mind is used
in finding excuses for not accepting change, thus the positivity required for
adaption is lost.
8.
Environment:
When change is presented in atmosphere of distrust, hatred, dis-confirmation, negation
it often hard to accept. The leader bringing in change also works at catalyst to
transformation. A non-supportive leader often not liked by many can hinder
change
9.
Emotions:
When we are emotionally attached to something or someone, our mind does not
permit to look beyond it, which works as obstacle to change
